Throne of Glass written by Sarah J. Maas is a
beautiful piece of young adult fantasy fiction. Throne of Glass is based in a fiction world, where main character,
Celaena Sardothien, and her fellow companions, fight against magic and an overpowering
king.
The book starts off in
Endovier, a slave mine, where the reader meets Celaena Sardothien. As the
reader progresses, the reader meets the other important characters in the book,
including Chaol Westfall (Captain of the Guard), Dorian Havilliard (Prince of
Adarlan), and Nehemia Ytger (Princess of Eyllwe).
When 18-year-old famous assassin Celaena (also known as Queen
of the Underworld) is chosen by
Prince Dorian to partake in a battle with 24 other competitors to be the King’s champion, she journeys to the
King’s castle, where Chaol trains her over the course of three months, so she has a chance at winning the title of winner of the competition.
Though Celaena is an assassin, she makes many friends (some of them her fellow competitors) on the path to winning the title of champion. The experience changes her in a way she never would have
thought.
When the murders of other
competitors start to happen, Celaena is visited by a very important person and
told to help save the kingdom, because it is under attack by dark magical forces. Over the three months of training, the assassin faces much
mistrust, fear, and anxiety until she finally figures out who her true friends
are. And that is where the story truly begins.

I found this book to
well-written and very intriguing. It is very rare for me to find books that
make me feel as if I have a connection to them. With The Throne of Glass, I felt as if I really lived in Adarlan with
Caelena and her companions and lived through all the adventure she went
through.
At the end of the book, in the
acknowledgements, the author, Sarah J. Maas, said that it took her a decade to
conceive and write the Throne of Glass
series. In my opinion, that is how a book should be. I could really feel, as I
was reading through the book, how much thought Maas put into her story. The
book did not feel like a book but rather a prized possession the author wanted
to share with the world.
To end this review, I want to say
that this book is one of the most well-written, thought out, beautiful pieces
of work I have read. And I cannot wait to move on in the series.
