Music Playlist for Reading

Monday, February 13, 2017

I love listening to music and reading. I feel as if the music brings the books and characters to life. (Also not to mention you can add upbeat music for epic battle scenes.)
I mostly listen to music while reading, because everyone in my house likes to be noisy while I'm trying to read. It's mostly like, "Oh, you're trying to read? Let me just vacuum the house."
Over the years, I've come up with a playlist of music to listen to while reading. I can't listen to music with lyrics while reading, because I get it confused with what I'm reading. So I usually listen to classical or movie soundtracks.
Here are some of my favorite reading songs.

Lord of the Rings Movie Soundtrack
I love listening to this soundtrack. I usually listen to it while reading a fiction fantasy book. It makes the magic and mythical characters so much better.
The soundtrack is composed by Howard Shore. You can find the soundtrack on YouTube, Amazon Music, or Google Play Music. (My favorite is Google Play.)

The Piano Guys
I adore The Piano Guys. Maybe it's just because I love the sound of a piano. But anyhow, they have amazing covers of any song you could imagine. Listening to their music while reading is great, because there are no lyrics, but they still cover songs you will most likely recognize.
The Piano Guys consists of Jon Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Paul Anderson, Al van der Beek, and Tel Stewart. You can find their music on YouTube, Amazon Music, or Google Play Music. (Once again, my favorite is Google Play, but it's up to you.)

Classical Music
Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Mozart, etc. I listened to a playlist of classical music while reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and it made the whole experience 10 times better.
I would never listen to classical music while in the car or studying. My reading playlist is the complete opposite of my regular life playlist.
Some of my favorite classical songs are:
•Chopin- Nocturne Op. No. 2 in E-flat Major
•Schubert- Serenade "Leise Flehen Meine Lieder"
•Beethoven- Piano Sonata Op. 13 (II: Adagio)
•Chopin- Waltz Op. 69 No. 1 in A-flat Major
•Mozart- Piano Concerto No. 21

Video Game Soundtracks
Video game soundtracks are perfect for books with dark plots and many battle scenes. Skyrim is one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to while reading. I came across a playlist on YouTube a few years ago containing epic fantasy music, and I've been listening to it ever since.
Some of my favorite epic fantasy songs are:
•A Way of Life (The Last Samurai)- Hans Zimmer (love him)
•Frostfall (Skyrim)- Jeremy Soule
•Breath of Life (The Lord of the Rings)
•A Lannister Always Pays His Debts (Game of Thrones)- Ramin Djawadi

Top 8 Favorite Book Quotes

Thursday, February 9, 2017

I don't know about you, but I love book quotes. Sometimes I just read a book, because I found an amazing quote excerpted from it. And sometimes I find an amazing quote about writing.
You can write quotes on anything: a bookmark, journal, social media, and sometimes people even tattoo them on their bodies.
Here are my top 8 favorite quotes from (and about) books.

"She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn't supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something."
Eleanor and Park, Rainbow Rowell

"There is nothing to writing. All you have to do is sit down at the typewriter and bleed."
Ernest Hemingway

"You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if only you dared."
Throne of Glass, Sarah J. Maas

"Sometimes in my tent, late at night, I think I can hear the stars scraping against the sky."
The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey

"I have hated the words, and I have loved them. And I hope, I have made them right."
The Book Thief, Markus Zusak

"I just want you to know that you're very special, and the only reason I'm telling you is that I don't know if anyone else ever has."
The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky

"Sometimes the dreams that come true are the dreams you never knew you had."
The Lovely Bones, Alice Sebold

"Start writing, no matter what. Water does not flow until the faucet is turned on."
Louis L'Amour
